Team building has long been crucial for company success, especially for digital marketing agencies and small businesses.

However, managing your company team is no easy task, especially now that two of three people around the world work remotely once or more per week.

1. Set Ground Rules

As the leader of your business, it helps to give your company team a clear picture of your ground rules. Establish how you like to operate and set clear expectations you want your team members to meet.

Everyone’s ground rules differ according to the types of projects they focus on—as well as what their preferred work style is. Lead by example, and follow your own ground rules every day once they are in place. Your team will be far likelier to follow suit.

2. Establish a Culture of Communication

Team success hinges on communication. And communication should always be a two-way street. Using quality communication tools makes it easier to stay in touch and keep everyone in the loop.

Acknowledge and reward team and individual accomplishments, communicate positive changes and be proactive with feedback. Keep an open-door policy so team members can come to you with concerns— and never keep anything from your team.

4. Provide Incentive

Additionally, rotating the type of incentive will help motivate all team members, as many have different preferences. Understand that everyone is different, and incentivize accordingly.

5. Give Team Members Autonomy

Providing autonomy shows your team members that you trust them. Give your team the opportunity to resolve disputes without intervention—and avoid micromanaging tasks whenever possible.

The more individual responsibility, authority and autonomy you can give your team members, the more you show that you believe in them. With this new sense of independence, it’s important to also encourage transparency at all levels so team members don’t feel excluded.
